South Asia: Al-Qaeda’s South Asia branch, Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), has released new tape of its spokesperson Sheikh Hussam Abdul Rauf, who is also the driving force behind Al-Qaeda’s “Vanguards of Khorasan” magazine, discussing Pakistan Army’s counter-terrorism operation in North Waziristan. The tape was released by Al-Qaeda’s As-Sahab Media; the Arabic version is 27 minutes , 41 seconds long and the Urdu version is 29 minutes , 35 seconds long. The tape features footage and images from different events, including footage of Pakistani soldiers carrying out operations and handling Taliban prisoners. The tape, released on the completion of four years of Pakistan Army’s Operation Zarb-e-Azb,  goes into detail in explaining why – according to Al-Qaeda – Pakistan Army is a “slave of imperialist powers” and part of the “Taghut” system. In the tape, Hussam Abdul Rauf repeatedly condemns Pakistan army and its counter-terror operations in North Waziristan. The tape also praises Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other Jihadist groups who have fought or are currently fighting against the Pakistan Army.

Rauf’s first appearance in a video from As Sahab Media was in June 2013. Rauf has been a prolific contributor to Al-Qaeda’s publications. In 2008, for example, Raouf threatened terrorist attacks against Canada if the country did not remove its troops from Afghanistan.
