Pakistan: On Friday, a former commander of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) named Arif Afridi has been killed by unknown gunmen in Sheen Dhand area of Darra Adam Khel. Another unidentified man accompanying Arif Afridi was also injured in the attack.

The attack took place when Arif Afridi was going home from a local mosque after Friday prayers.

Former commander of TTP Arif Afridi had surrendered to the Pakistani government few years ago.

UPDATE: At 5 pm, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Noor Wali Mehsud group released a detailed statement claiming the attack that killed its former commander Arif Afridi alias Kaka.

In its statement, TTP accuses its former commander of helping the Pakistani government, intelligence agencies and security forces in getting several TTP fighters and informants killed. Statement says STF (Special Task Force) commando group of TTP carried out the attack. Statement further says that Arif Afridi’s gunman Khalid was also injured in the attack. In the end, the statement says that the attack is part of TTP’s policy of killing its former members who have surrendered to the Pakistani government, after declaring them ‘murtad’ (apostate).
